Coloured Driveway Sealer vs Paint

For the vast majority of homes, the driveway is the most used part of the property and is usually the most visible aspect of the entrance. As the driveway is often used for things like parking vehicles, make-shift work areas, and car maintenance and cleaning, it is also exposed to a lot of potential staining from dirt, grime, oils and more.
For this reason, applying a protective coating to your driveway is highly recommended as it will provide a barrier against stains and moisture damage, and also provides the opportunity to enhance the look of your home.
Depending on the type of driveway you have, one of the best products to use for protecting your concrete driveway is a coloured concrete sealer.
It’s important to understand that a resin based coloured concrete sealer is a very different product to a regular house paint or paving paint.
House paints should never be used on flooring as they are typically soft and flexible which means they will wear fast and can be easily damaged. Paving paints are a better choice for floors as they are much harder than house paint, but they are made with a small amount of binder (or resin) and lots of pigment and fillers to help keep the price down. Once paints lose their adhesion they need to be removed before you can recoat.
Base 301 Coloured Concrete sealer is a pure resin sealer with a small amount of pure pigment added – no fillers or other additives. Paints will not offer the same level of durability or protection as a sealer, and in most cases will begin to wear away, flake and chip in a matter of months leaving the area looking run down and exposed to stains again.
The key benefit of base 301 coloured concrete sealer is that the solvent carrier helps the sealer penetrate deep into the surface for great adhesion. If the area gets worn it can be easily re-coated by applying a fresh coat of sealer over the old with minimal preparation. The solvent in the new coat of sealer effectively softens and melts the existing sealer and the new coat keys to the old sealer. Once the solvent evaporates the sealer dries rock hard and provides outstanding protection for concrete driveways.
Using Coloured Concrete Sealer 301 is also a great way to add character to your driveway and add your own personal touch to your home. As it is available in 10 colours, you can choose the tint to suit the look you’re after and it provides high protection from weather conditions, oil leaks and spills and water damage, which helps to prolong the life of the entire area.
Using a coloured concrete sealer with not only give a visually appealing look to your property, but also potentially improve the value of the home.
As our Coloured Concrete Sealer 301 comes pre-tinted, it simplifies the application process making it a great choice for both the DIY’er and professional tradie.
With a recoat time of 2 – 4 hours, you can usually have the application process completed in the same day using a paint roller on a short extension pole.
